Overnight in Pakbeng is not included. You arrange your own accommodation in Pakbeng and rejoin the local boat the next morning.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Hotel pickup in Chiang Rai at 5:00 am by 11-seater van. Arrive at the border around 7:00 am. Shuttle bus across to Lao immigration (about 20–30 minutes). Transfer to the boat pier — the local boat departs Huay Xai at 9:30 am, arriving Pakbeng around 4:00 pm. Overnight in Pakbeng (arranged by you).

  2. Day 2

    From your hotel to the boat pier in Pakbeng. The local boat departs at 8:30 am, arriving Luang Prabang around 4:00 pm. The trip ends at the Luang Prabang boat pier.

Questions

What should I bring on the river journey?

Light luggage, sun protection, passport for border checks, and cash for stops en route. Boat routes stop overnight in Pakbeng, which you arrange yourself. The Laos visa on arrival is about 40 USD and is paid by you.

Are dates flexible?

Available departure dates are shown when you book each route. Seats are limited — choose an open date in the booking flow.

Is payment secure?

Yes. Stripe Checkout takes cards and Thai PromptPay. We never store your card details. Apple Pay can appear on supported devices.

Can I change or cancel?

Where do I meet the boat?

Chiang Rai routes leave from your hotel. The Chiang Khong luxury boat is picked up in Chiang Khong. Boats finish in Luang Prabang. Train K11 also runs to Vang Vieng and Vientiane.
